USG Knauf Ceiling gi Channels

False ceilings are the secondary ceiling designs built just below the actual ceiling design of any office’s interior area or space. Moreover, false ceilings play a vital role in making your corporate office area sound-proof, moisture resistant, light efficient, and much more. Besides that, false ceilings are excellent for an aesthetic appeal.

But knowing about the different techniques and channels used in its installation is much more insightful. Enlisted below are a few essential false ceiling channels:

  • Ceiling section
  • Intermediate
  • Perimeter
  • Ceiling angle or L angle

  • Thundersteel

Ceiling section

Ceiling Section is an integral part of suspended ceiling system. Ceiling Section is recommended to be used as cross members & are connected with Intermediate channels through connecting clips. The Gypsum boards are secured to the Ceiling sections & are placed always perpendicular to the direction of the boards. Length of the channel are 12ft.

Intermediate

Intermediate channel is an integral part of Suspended ceiling system. GI Intermediate Channel is the main member & is hung from the soffit through ceiling angle, soffit cleat & fasteners. It is positioned in perpendicular direction to the ceiling section & each intersection has connecting clips which keeps both the sections in place.

Perimeter

Perimeter channel is an integral part of suspended ceiling. GI Perimeter Channel is used to fix at the periphery of the brick wall / drywall to receive end of ceiling sections and intermediate channel on top. This acts as the frame for the false ceiling.

Ceiling angle or L angle

L angle is an integral part of Suspended ceiling system. L Angle is recommended to use as a Ceiling hanger to suspend intermediate channels from the soffit /RCC with the soffit cleat and approved fastener

What are false ceiling channels and why are they important?

False ceiling channels are metal profiles that form the structural framework supporting the false ceiling panels (such as gypsum boards). They ensure stability, alignment, and durability of the suspended ceiling system, and play a vital role in soundproofing, moisture resistance, light efficiency, and aesthetic appeal.

What are the main types of channels used in false ceiling installations?

The essential false ceiling channels include:Ceiling Section: Cross members placed perpendicular to the gypsum boards and connected to intermediate channels.Intermediate Channel: Main supporting member suspended from the soffit; oriented perpendicular to ceiling sections.Perimeter Channel: Fixed around the room perimeter to create the frame supporting the ends of ceiling and intermediate channels.Ceiling Angle (L Angle): L-shaped channel used as a hanger to suspend intermediate channels from the soffit or RCC slab.

How are the channels positioned and connected?

Perimeter channels are fixed at the room edges on walls.L Angles are fixed to the soffit and support intermediate channels hanging vertically.Intermediate channels are suspended from L angles and run perpendicular to ceiling sections.Ceiling sections are installed perpendicular to the gypsum boards and connected to intermediate channels via clips, creating the grid framework.

What are the different USG frame products available for false ceilings?

The following USG frame systems are commonly used:Easy FrameEKO FrameST 50ThundersteelEach system offers varying thicknesses tailored for structural strength and application needs.

What benefits do these frames provide?

Varying thicknesses give options for load capacity and span requirements.Galvanized steel ensures corrosion resistance and durability. The modular design allows fast, precise installation and easy alignment of gypsum boards.Systems can be chosen based on budget, structural needs, and building codes.

How do I choose the right frame product for my false ceiling?

For standard commercial or residential ceilings, Easy Frame or EKO Frame are typically sufficient. For heavier ceilings or higher load capacity, ST 50 or Thundersteel offer thicker, stronger channels.Consider factor such as room size, ceiling design, load (lighting fixtures, HVAC ducts), and local regulations.

Are these channel products compatible with gypsum boards and other ceiling panels?

Yes, all USG frame products are designed to be compatible with standard gypsum boards, mineral fiber tiles, and other ceiling materials, ensuring strong support and easy attachment.

Why should I use USG frame products for false ceiling installations?

USG frame products are manufactured under strict quality control and standards, providing reliable strength, corrosion resistance, and consistent dimensions. Their established reputation and availability of various thicknesses allow architects and contractors to choose the right system for each project, improving safety, durability, and aesthetics.
